Irans power forced West to enter nuclear talks: MP

The deputy speaker of Irans Majlis says the Iranian nations strength compelled the West to enter into dialog with the Islamic Republic over issues related to the countrys nuclear energy program.
The authoritativeness and steadfastness of the Iranian nation forced the West to withdraw from its previous positions against Iran and pushed it to the nuclear negotiating table, said Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard in the Iranian town of Borazjan on Saturday.

He noted that when Irans nuclear dossier was referred to the UN Security Council for the first time in 2006, the Islamic Republic had 194 centrifuges, but now that the West has entered into the nuclear negotiations, the country possesses over 19,000 centrifuges.

Apart from the indigenous production of first-generation centrifuges, Iran has also built 1,000 second-generation centrifuges (IR-2m).

According to Director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi, third- and fourth-generation centrifuges are also undergoing tests in the country.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council the US, the UK, France, Russia, and China plus Germany are working to hammer out a comprehensive deal following an interim agreement reached late last year in Geneva, Switzerland. Experts from both sides met in Vienna, Austria, last week.

The next round of high-level talks between Iran and the six countries is to be held in Vienna on March 17.
