Iran role in resolution of regional woes significant
A high-ranking Croatian legislator has stressed the Islamic Republic of Irans high status in the Middle East, stating that Irans major role in the resolution of regional conflicts cannot be ignored.
In a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi in Tehran on Monday, Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee in the Croatian Parliament Milorad Pupovac pointed to Irans capacities and position at regional and international levels, describing Iran as a great regional power, IRNA reported.

He also touched upon cultural commonalities and friendly relations between Croatia and Iran, adding that the Croatian Parliament welcomes expansion of Zagreb-Tehran ties, particularly in parliamentary, economic, and scientific fields.

Pupovac further noted that the Croatian government and parliament both support negotiations between Iran and six world powers over Tehrans nuclear energy program, expressing hope that the talks could produce concrete results.

Takht-e Ravanchi, for his part, hailed good and friendly relations between Iran and Croatia, and noted that parliamentary ties can facilitate further development of mutual relations.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister also referred to talks over Tehrans nuclear energy program, underlining that Tehran has entered the negotiations with the best of intentions and seeks to successfully conclude them and open a new chapter in its relations with Europe.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain -- plus Germany held three days of talks in the Austrian capital, Vienna, which ended on February 20.

The talks in Vienna were follow-up to earlier negotiations in Geneva, which resulted in a landmark interim deal between Iran and the six countries in November 2013. The deal took effect on January 20.

The next round of the talks between Iran and the world powers are to be held in Vienna on March 17.
