Syria victory bone of contention in [P]GCC: Iran MP

An Iranian MP has described the failure of the foreign-backed militants in their fight against the Syrian government as the main source of difference among member states of the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council ([P]GCC).

Recalling Saudi, Emirati and Bahraini ambassadors from Doha along with Saudis warning to Qatar show that differences among the littoral states of the Persian Gulf are serious, Member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Ebrahim Aqa-Mohammadi said on Thursday.

He added that some of the Persian Gulf littoral states had drawn up plans to determine the destiny of the Syrian nation.
Their assumption was the definite collapse of Syria. But, the Syrian government and nation have neutralized all threats and emerged more powerful than in the past. It seems that the success of the Syrian government against terrorists is the main source of difference in the [P]GCC, Aqa-Mohammadi pointed out.
On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain recalled their ambassadors to Qatar after accusing Doha of interfering in the internal affairs of their countries.

In a joint statement, the countries said they have exerted massive efforts to contact Qatar on all levels to agree on a unified policy...to ensure non-interference, directly or indirectly, in the internal affairs of any member state.

On Thursday, Syrian government forces gained more ground in their battle against foreign-backed militants and established full control in the Rima area near the strategic western town of Yabroud, situated about 80 kilometers (about 50 miles) north of the capital, Damascus, as well as in the al-Qatri district.

The official SANA news agency reported that Syrian troops stormed several terrorist hideouts in the aforementioned areas, killing scores of militants.

Syria has been the scene of deadly violence since March 2011. Over 130,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the turmoil.

According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies - especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey - have been supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
