TEHRAN, March 6 (MNA) A photo series by Younes Khani, Mehr News Agency, Iran has been honored by UNICEF during UNICEF Photo of the Year 2013.
The photo series entitled Father poured acid on us, depicts the vicissitudes of a mother and her two daughters after the father poured acid on both his wife and two daughters.

Younes Khani gave an interview to Mehr News about the prize awarded by UNICEF during a ceremony in Berlin, Germany. My photo series, Father poured acid on us, has been placed among the honored series in UNICEF Photo of the Year 2013, he added. It is the account of a Mother, Somayeh and her two daughters living in a village in far-flung city of Bam, southeastern province of Kerman, said he, daughters grandfather, Somayehs father, who is a farmer, has sold his farm to provide them with money needed for plastic surgery.

Somayehs husband is an opium addict and two years ago, after Somayeh tried to separate from her violent husband, he poured acid on her and on their four-year-old daughter Rama, even did not spare acid on his 2-year-old daughter, Nazanin, said Khani.

Taking these photos lasted for two years and since the beginning I have been with these three people. I sent the photos to UNICEF and I found out that I have been honored as one of 9 honored photographers of 2013, added Khani and that part of this series had been published by Mehr News, and the second part was sent to UNICEF.

Khani, who is a photographer in Mehr News Agency, said that he would travel to Koln, Germany to receive the prize. A UNICEF website report wrote about Khanis photo series. When Somayeh tried to separate from her violent husband, he poured acid on her and on their four-year-old daughter Rama. In his series, the Iranian photographer shows their struggle for a normal life.

His photos had been honored in line with photo series by likes of Marcus Bleasdale, Sara Lewkowicz, Patricia Willocq, Michael C. Brown, Laura Boushnak, Gordon Welters, and Joachim Adrian.
