Zarif calls for Iran-Japan peaceful nuclear cooperation

Tokyo, March 5, IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday called for Tehran-Tokyo cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear technology.

Making the remark in a meeting with members of Iran-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, he noted that based on Geneva deal, the two countries could cooperate in nuclear technology area particularly in the areas of nuclear security and generation of nuclear electricity.

He believed Tehran and Tokyo could cooperate in environment protection and green industries as well.

Stressing that Japan has always been a friendly country to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Zarif highlighted many areas of cooperation between the two nations.

Turning to the nuclear talks between Iran and the 5+1, he said Tehran entered the talks believing that differences will be settled if there is good will and determination on both sides.

Given the fact that Iran has never been after developing nuclear arms and pursued nothing but peaceful use of nuclear technology, he added, the final solution to the nuclear issue would not be difficult to achieve.

Though certain groups in the US are trying to increase sanctions against Iran, they should learn lessons from their past experiences about the failure of such measures, Zarif said.

The Japanese head of Iran-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group too voiced happiness with the progress in nuclear talks between Iran and the 5+1.

He further voiced readiness of the Japanese economic bodies to resume cooperation with Iran.

Zarif is currently in Japan on a two-day visit.
