Moscow hosts conference on Iran-Russia relations

The Institute of Oriental Studies in Moscow has hosted an international conference where dozens of experts discussed the current state and prospects of Russia-Iran relations.

During the meeting the Iranian ambassador to Russia discussed current economic and political climate with analysts and exchanged views on cooperation between the two nations. Analysts see energy as a key aspect in relations between Moscow and Tehran at the moment. During the conference, experts have presented reports on the practical aspects of development of bilateral ties in other areas like politics, culture, trade, and security.But they have also discussed the obstacles in ties between Moscow and Tehran.

Both Russian and Iranian experts believe cooperation between the two countries is very important, particularly in international politics. They say that more work must be down to strengthen cooperation on regional level. According to experts, there are certain difficulties in the Russian-Iranian relations, especially in economic issues. International sanctions against Iran hinder the signing of important agreements between Moscow and Tehran. But nonetheless, analysts agree that the two sides should work on taking their relations to a strategic level.
