Rafsanjani hails WCRP’s efforts to promote global peace

TEHRAN (FNA)- Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council (EC) Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in a meeting with Secretary General of the World Conference of Religions for Peace William Fray Vendley praised the WCRP for its efforts to promote peace and tranquility in the world.
“In an era that the news of humans’ massacre goes on headlines, efforts to put out the flames of war and blowing the spirit of peace-seeking is a valuable work,” Rafsanjani said during the meeting in Tehran on Sunday evening.

“In a world that a number of people attempt to wage war and kill humans in pursuit of financial goals, the efforts made by people and organizations to deepen and institutionalize peace are highly meaningful and appreciated,” he added.

Rafsanjani underlined that no religion primarily invites people to war, and said different verses of the holy Quran stress the necessity for establishment and prevalence of peace.

In relevant remarks in 2010, Hashemi Rafsanjani reiterated that Islam has ordered its followers to refrain from disrespecting other religions.

Islam has ordered its followers to respect other divine religions, Hashemi Rafsanjani said in a meeting with the visiting Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Khanania Dinkha IV.

He further said that Muslim clerics have always recommended that the followers of Islam refrain from taking "reciprocal moves" because Islam does not permit its followers to dishonor other religions.
