Iran, Nakhichevan in talks over visa-free regime
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran and the autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan are negotiating to start a visa-free travel regime in the near future, a senior official announced on Saturday.
We have done the necessary consultations in this regard (visa-free regime) and hope to achieve the (desired) result, Irans Consul General in Nakhichevan Mohammad Taqi Mohammad Ali said in a meeting held to discuss the launch of Maku Free Trade Zone in Orumieh, the capital of Iran's West Azarbaijan province, today.

Mohammad Ali pointed to the status quo of Iran-Nakhichevan relations, and stressed that much attention should be paid to expansion of agricultural ties between the two countries.

The Iranian envoy explained that agricultural cooperation between Iran and Nakhichevan had been halted in the past two years, but the two sides agreed to bring 1,200 hectares of Nakhchevan agricultural lands under beet cultivation with technical assistance from Iran and deliver the products to the latter's Khoy sugar factory.

The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is a landlocked exclave of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The region covers 5,500 km with a population of 410,000, bordering Armenia to the East and North, Iran to the South and West, and Turkey to the Northwest.
