EU to remove 11 IRISL managers from sanctions list

ILNA: A European Union court ruling to remove the EU sanctions against 11 managers of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL)has been finalized, an Iranian official says.
"The ruling for removal of the names of 11 managers of the company (IRISL) from the list of EU sanctions has been finalized," said Alaeddin Sadat Rasoul, the head of the IRISL legal department, on Friday.

He also commented on the September 2013 ruling by the European Court of Justice, adding, "The ruling has been finalized as the legal respite expired and no appeal was lodged against the ruling."

The 11 individuals are entitled to claim compensation for all the material and moral damages arising from the baseless allegations, the IRISL official stated.

In 2011, the EU targeted over 30 IRISL holding companies as part of the US-led sanctions against the Islamic Republic over the claim that the Iranian nuclear energy program had non-civilian aspects.

Sadat Rasoul also pointed to the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Britain, China, France, Russia and the US - plus Germany and expressed hope that the EU will not re-impose sanctions against the IRISL directors without legal justifications.

Iran and the six world powers sealed an interim deal on November 24, 2013, to pave the way for the full resolution of the Wests decade-old dispute with Iran over the countrys nuclear energy program.

In exchange for Irans confidence-building bid to limit certain aspects of its nuclear energy activities, the Western countries agreed to lift some of the existing sanctions against Iran and impose no new sanctions against the country within a six-month period.
