TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran's power exports to Iraq through the country's western province have witness an eye-catching growth during the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2013), Iranian minister of energy announced."Irans electricity exports to Iraq via Kermanshah province have reached 1,500 megawatts this year, up from 1000 megawatts last year," Hamid Chitchian said, addressing a meeting in Kermanshah on Friday evening.
Chitchian also described the western province as one of Iran's "strategic" border provinces.
Iran currently exports electricity to Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan on a daily basis, and new projects are underway to boost the countrys power exports in future.
On August 30, a senior energy official said Iran plans to connect its national grid to Russia and Europe, adding that part of preparatory work to connect Iran's electricity network to Russia has been carried out so far.
Mohammad Behzad, Irans deputy minister of energy for electricity and energy affairs, told Tasnim at the time that some European countries have voiced willingness for purchasing Iranian electricity.
After technical studies, a plan for the connection of Irans electricity grid to Europe will become operational.
