Turkish parliament speaker departs for Tehran

Ankara, Feb 17, IRNA -- Turkey?s Parliament Speaker Jemil Cicek left Ankara for Tehran on Monday at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani to attend the 9th OIC Parliamentary Union conference.

The conference under the theme of Islamic parliaments, solidarity, justice and development opened in Tehran on Friday February 14 and will work until February 19.

A delegation of Turkish legislators arrived in Tehran on Thursday to participate in executive committee of the OIC Parliamentary Union conference and specialized committees on political and foreign relations affairs, economic affairs and environment, human rights and Culture.

The conference will continue its work at the level of parliament speakers on February 18-19.

The OIC Parliamentary Union is composed of 53 Islamic countries, including Turkey.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA prior to his departure for Tehran, Cicek said although the OIC is one of the biggest international organizations after the United Nations, we have failed to resolve Muslim worlds problems.

Tens of innocent people are being killed in our neighboring countries every day and we have to bring an end to this bloodshed, Cicek said, adding that Tehran conference provides an opportunity to do so.

To sit aside and let others to solve Muslim differences is a wrong approach, he said.

It should be examined whether they are really after solving the issue or will further exacerbate it, he added.

He urged Islamic countries to make use of important events such as Tehran conference to deepen their relations.

The Turkish parliament speaker said that sectarian differences should not be allowed to create obstacle for collective efforts by the Muslim countries to terminate the sufferings of the Muslims.
