Shiraz hosts prominent physicists in superconductivity conference

TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (MNA) Shiraz has hosted 3 prominent physicist and 400 other Shiraz University science and technology professors and students in a conference on superconductivity.

The conference opened on Monday. Gholamhossein Bordbar, member of the Department of Physics and the executive director of the conference who was speaking in the opening ceremony told that the invited physicists would visit the Department to find information about high potentials and capability of the Department, and to participate in a session with Department board members.

He mentioned extending international contacts in university level, signing agreements to implement joint scientific projects, arranging for professor and student exchange programs with internationally-renowned universities, and holding short-term international internship periods in Shiraz University as among the main objectives of the conference.

Materials with superconductivity have little or zero resistance to the currents and so significantly reduce the energy wasting in different systems, he commented on the superconductive material.

Bordbar also pointed to wide applications of superconductive materials in industries. Microscale electronic parts, electricity transfer from power plants in distribution networks, manufacturing super-thin cables to achieve higher output, creating strong magnetic fields that help in express train services and applications in the military industry are among the applications, he added.
