TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (MNA) Head of Natural History Museum and Genetic Reserves Bureau of Department of Environment has said collection of fossils will be returned to Iran after 35 years.Shahabeddin Montazemiwas quoted by Department of Environment official website as saying that northwestern Iranian vertebrate fossils provided evidence about the genealogy of modern mammalians and conditions of pre-historic physical environment, which made access to these fossils important to interested parties around the world.
Before the Revolution, US and Japanese archeologists working on Irans northwestern vertebrate fossils had taken with themselves all important fossils to be displayed in the universities and museums, he added.
"After years of expert-level negotiations and filing a complaint to International Court in the Hague, Japan and the US agreed to return these fossils to original country, Montazemi said, the collection consists of the skull of saber-toothed tiger and different bones and skulls of antelopes (deer family).
