IMF delegation visits Iranian financial officials in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which has traveled to Iran to carry out an evaluation of the countrys economy, held a meeting with officials representing the National Development Fund of Iran.

The visiting team from the IMF has arrived in Iran in a bid to resume the annual evaluation of the countrys economy.

Such evaluations have been suspended since the global organizations last mission, nearly three years ago.

The IMF team is also expected to issue a report following the visit to Iran, reviewing progress, shortcomings and challenges facing the economy.

Earlier in January, IMF spokesman William Murray had announced that there was an agreement to undertake an article IV review in Iran... There was a bit of a break in recent years.

Under the Article IV, IMF officials take a critical eye to a country's economic situation and management after discussions with officials as well as businessmen, politicians and civil society groups.

"The overall focus of this article IV consultation will be on how to restore macro-economic stability and begin addressing longstanding weaknesses in Iran's policy framework and economic structure," Murray has stated.

And in a separate development in November 2013, another IMF had visited Iran to learn about the economic plan of President Rouhanis administration.
