Iranian nuclear negotiators are backed by military might

TEHRAN, Feb. 3 (MNA) The deputy commander of Irans Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Sunday that Iranian nuclear negotiators are backed by the countrys military might.
Brigadier General Hossein Salami made the remarks in response to U.S. officials who have recently said that the military option is still on the table if Iran does not adhere to an interim nuclear deal reached between the Islamic Republic and the major powers in Geneva on November 24, 2013.

In an interview with Al Arabiya on January 23, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said, If Iran does not execute the commitments it made with Western powers, the military option of the United States is ready and prepared to do what it would have to do.

In his annual State of the Union address on January 28, U.S. President Barack Obama also said that all options, including the military option against Irans nuclear program , are on the table if need be.

In addition, U.S. State Department spokesperson Marie Harf said on Friday that the alternative to diplomacy with Iran is likely to involve military action.

Enormous potential for foreign policy

Salami said, Our political officials and diplomats should defend our national interests strongly and confidently. We offer enormous potential for the foreign policy and the nuclear negotiating team is backed by our military might.

The IRGC general also said, Although we possess highly destructive and offensive military power and are able to threaten the interests of major powers on any level, we do not talk about our military might in the process of diplomatic engagement.

They (the United States) can use the military option, but they should also accept responsibility for its destructive consequences, he noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said, Anyone who speaks to our people in the language of threat or humiliation should be aware of the fact that we do not recognize any geographical boundaries in dealing with them and that the scope of our response will not be restricted to any borders.
