Iranian national handball team to compete in world cup for 1st time
Manama, Feb 3, IRNA Iranian nation mens handball team gained a tie result versus hosts Bahrain in 16th Asian Championship and World Cup Qualifier games, and with no lost match ranked qualified for 2015 Qatar Handball World Cup Sunday night.
The Iranian national team that gains little attention of the countrys mass media bravely gained a 30-30 tie result versus home team, Bahrain, in Al Khalifa stadium, which was packed with the supporters of the Bahraini national side, to ensure their place in 2015 World Cup.

The referees of the sensitive match were Yasamin Kilco and Michelle Johansson from Sweden, elected by the Iranian head of the Referees Committee of the Asian Handball Confederation, Davoud Tavakkoli.

With this result Bahrain and Iran ranked 1st and second in Group 1 to reach the semifinal match and meanwhile both qualified for attending the 2015 Qatar World Cup.

The Iranian national handball team will on February 4th face Qatar in the semi final match.

In their previous four matches the Iranian handball team had faced South Korea, the Asian champion for nine years and most prestigious team in the games, with which they gained the 24-24 tie, Saudi Arabia also a 22-22 tie, and gained two precious victories against China and Uzbekistan, respectively beating them 34-27 and 54-22.

The 16th Asian Championship Handball Cup and World Cup Qualifier Games are being held in Manama, the capital city of Bahrain, from January 25th to February 6th, featuring 12 teams that compete in two groups.

Groups 1 is comprised of Iran, Uzbekistan, South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain, while in Group there are Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Iraq, Japan and Qatar.

Two teams from each group rise to the semi final matches, which will be held on Tuesday, February 4th, and the final game will be held on February 6th.

The three top teams of these games will be qualified for competition in Qatar 2015 Handball World Cup, while Bahrain that has reached the semifinals is automatically qualified because of hosting the games.

Iran and Bahrain have thus ensured their places in the 2015 games.

Qatar is the third team in the semi finals as the top team of Group 2, and the semifinals fourth teams name will be known after the Monday matches.

In the 5th Asian Handball Championship Cup which was held in Saudi Arabia the Iranian national team whose seven players were due to various reasons not in the field did not qualify for the semifinals, and ranked no better than 5th.
