Egypt charges eight for spying for Israel

Egypt's state security court charged three Egyptians and five Israelis withespionage on behalf of Israel.
The eight defendants were accused of "espionage and providing a foreign entity with information concerning national security," court documents indicate.

The defendants were referred to a criminal court.

The five Israelis --alleged members of Israel's intelligence agency Mossad-- were allegedly collaborating with the Egyptians to gain information on Egypt's national security, Ahram Online reported Sunday. The Israelis are scheduled to be tried in absentia.

The Egyptian defendantsare accused of accepting $40,000 from the Israelis for leaked information.
