TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran exported over 5.089 million tons of non-oil goods via its land-border crossings in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21�December 21), showing a 14.7-percent increase compared with the same period last year, an Iranian official said.


During the said period, Iran�s oil and non-oil imports amounted to 27.916 million tons approximately, while 43.414 million tons of goods headed for foreign markets, the Director General of the IT Center of the Iranian Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) Faramarz Maddah said.

Referring to an average 1.038 million tons of products imported into Iran via land border-crossings since March 21, Maddah pointed out that out of the total import/export volume some 9 percent has been handled by road, one percent via railroad and a major 90 percent through marine transportation.

He went on to describe Bazargan border-crossing as the busiest import route with 58 percent share, followed by Mirjaveh and Astara borders each with a 15-percent share of total imports.

As for exports, he added, Bazargan, Dogharoun and Astara were the busiest crossing points handling 25, 22 and 11 percent of total exports, respectively.

Afghanistan and Turkey, Maddah noted, were the main importers of Iranian products and Turkey and Azerbaijan served as the top exporters to the Islamic Republic.

Maddah also referred to some 139 and 68 thousand foreign and local passengers traveling into Iran during the same nine-month period, while the figures for those heading out of the country stood at 166 thousand foreigners and 135 thousand Iranians.
