Leader pardons prisoners, commutes sentences

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has pardoned and commuted the sentences of a number of prisoners on the occasion of two Islamic festive occasions.

Ayatollah Khamenei on Saturday agreed to pardon and commute jail terms of 878 prisoners on the occasion of the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the sixth Shia Imam, Imam Ja’far Sadeq (AS).

The Leader’s decision came in response to a letter from Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani asking for clemency and reduction of the prisoners’ jail terms.

The 17th day of the lunar Islamic month of Rabi al-Awwal marks the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Imam Ja’far Sadeq (AS).
