Speaking to inn.ir, Mohammad Rastegari, the deputy head of Tehrans Environment Department for Monitoring and Supervision, noted that according to statistics, air quality in Tehran has declined in such a way that its residents experienced only two clean air days in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2013).
The residents of Tehran will not experience a clean day on January 19, which has coincided with the National Clean Air Day in Iran.
Rastegari said the capital city has been facing a rise in air pollution since past few years.
"The quality of air was also poor during the same time last year in Tehran, he said, adding that air pollution rises in the capital city during summer and autumn.
Rastegari also said residents suffering from heart and lung diseases and those with chronic respiratory diseases as well as the elderly, children and pregnant women are advised to stay at home during unhealthy days.
