Damascus, Jan 15, IRNA – Iranˈs Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said here on Wednesday that he is to hold meetings with a number of Russian officials during his Moscow visit to take place on Thursday.
Talking to reports upon arrival in Damascus airport, he said that Iran on threshold of the Geneva II meeting is lobbying with Syrian officials and other regional countries to pave the way for constructive and effective stands leading to restoration of tranquility and stability to both Syria and the region.
Zarif said Iran is cooperating with other regional countries to fight extremism and sectarian tendencies in a bid to end the current critical situation.
He noted that he had discussed the issue with Lebanese, Jordanian and Iraqi officials in the past days, saying that he will continue exchanging views with officials in Russia.
Zarif expressed hope that the whole discussions would ensure peace and stability in Syria.
