Beirut, Jan 14, IRNA Irans Ambassador to Beirut Ghazanfar Roknabadi said the Monday visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Lebanon was important as the country is in the front line of resistance against the Zionist regime.Talking to IRNA on Tuesday, he said Zarifs visit to Lebanon took place within the framework of his regional trips to discuss issues of mutual interest.
He said Lebanon is particularly important since it is in the frontline of war against the occupying Zionist regime.
The ambassador believed the visit was especially significant given the fact that it took place on the threshold of the Geneva II conference.
On the outcomes of Iran-5+1 nuclear agreement and its positive impact on regional developments, he said the Iranian foreign minister particularly focused on the threats posed to the whole region by the Takfiri terrorists and stressed the need for joint cooperation to counter their activities.
Referring to Zarifs meeting with the Hizbullah Leader Seyyed Hassan Nassrallah, he said he underlined Irans continuing support for the anti-Zionism resistance movement.
Zarif arrived in the Iraqi capital Tuesday morning as part of his tour of four regional countries. He flew to Baghdad from Beirut for a one day visit during which he is to discuss regional issues with Iraqi officials. Issues pertaining to anti-terrorism campaign would top his agenda in Iraq.
Zarif travelled to Beirut Monday morning on the first leg of his four-nation regional tour which will later take him to Jordan and Syria. While in Lebanon, he met and conferred with Nasrallah and a number of other Lebanese officials including president and foreign minister.
