Larijani: Collective cooperation needed to solve Syrian crisis

Tehran, Jan 11, IRNA Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Saturday that Syrian crisis should be resolved through collective cooperation or else it would spread to other parts of the region.
He made the remarks, in a meeting with visiting Chairman of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament) Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade Pat Breen in Tehran on Saturday.

Given the importance of expansion of relations and cooperation between Iran and the European Union, Larijani said consolidation of cooperation between the two sides would help resolve regional crises and disputes.

From the early stages, the Islamic Republic of Iran wanted the crisis to besolved through political means whereas certain countries wanted it to remain unresolved, Larijani said.

Recent talks between Iran and G5+1 indicated that Irans nuclear issue could be resolved through peaceful negotiations, he said.

Breen, for his part, expressed satisfaction with his visit to Iran and described the countrys atmosphere mainly after the recent presidential election as positive for expansion of ties with his country.

High ranking Irish officials have called for upgrading the current level of political, economic and industrial cooperation between the two countries, he said.

The Irish government has always underlined that Irans nuclear issue could be resolved through diplomatic means, Breen said.

Breen called the presence of terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda as source of threat to peace and security of the region and the world.
