Envoy downplays efforts to undermine Iran-Azerbaijan friendly relations

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Tehran-Baku bilateral ties are witnessing progress in all domains, and no divisive plot hatched by the enemies can undermine these historical relations, Irans Ambassador to Azerbaijan Republic Mohsen Pakayeen said.

Pakayeen said on Saturday that Tehran and Baku with commonalities in the fields of culture, language, religion and history have also deep ties in many other areas such as economy, politics and culture.

The Iranian official went on to say that there are elements who want to interfere in Tehran-Baku bilateral relations and are manipulating media to this end, so if our media reflect news directly, this would prevent such propaganda.

He also reminded importance of media in development of ties between countries, adding that media have big effect in strengthening relations, so connections between representatives of our media should be more.

The Iranian diplomat referred to international cooperation between Tehran and Baku and added that on the international scenes, Iran and Azerbaijan Republic support each other's stances and have good cooperation in international and regional bodies.

He underlined relations between parliaments of the two countries and said that the two counties' parliamentary friendship groups have very sincere and positive relations and it is expected that the two groups pay reciprocal visits in the year 2014.

Iran has recently enhanced efforts to boost political, economic and cultural ties and cooperation with the regional and neighboring countries, specially the Central Asian states.

In October 2012, former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad traveled to Baku to attend the 12th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). The Iranian and Azeri presidents met on the sidelines of the Summit, where both leaders reiterated the necessity for exploring new avenues to develop bilateral ties and cooperation.
