Baku, Jan 10, IRNA A political analyst from Azerbaijan Republic said here Friday western countries sabotage against Irans presence in Geneva II International Peace Conference on Syria is both illogical and due to their enmity against Tehran.
If the organizers of that conference are truly after problem resolving in Syria, then they should invite the entire influential countries in the issue to the gathering, Zartosht Alizadeh told IRNA.

The former leader of Azerbaijans Social Democratic Party further argued that if the Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and those western countries that defend the opponents of Bashar Assad in Syria can participate in this gathering, why is it then that Iran that both defends the legal government there and is seeking a peaceful, diplomatic solution for the problem cannot attend the conference?

He also argued that there is also Turkey, which has directly got engaged in that crisis and is attending the conference, but Iran is not invited.

The Azeri analyst said that such issues raise a series of logical question in the minds that can be summed up in Wests illogical and antagonist approach towards the issues related to Iran.

The US Secretary of State John Kerry and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet on January 13 in a bid to decide on whether Iran should take part, said UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq has said.

Iran was not among the first invitations, Haq said.

US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet on January 13 and we very much hope they will reach agreement on Irans participation he added.

It was not known if the UN-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi would be at the January 13 meeting.

Russia has pressed for Irans participation in the bid to end the 34-month-old conflict.

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, too, also spoken out in favor of Iranian involvement, but the United States and a few western governments have opposed a frontline place for Tehran at the meetings in Switzerland.

The January 22 meeting is to help implement a June 2012 Geneva I declaration by the major powers, including Russia and the United States, that says that a transitional government must be established in Syria.

The United States has said that Iran should not take part in the conference because it has refused to back up the Geneva I Declaration.
