No precondition for attending Geneva II confab acceptable, diplomat

Tehran, Jan 9, IRNA Deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs said Iran accepts no pre-condition for its presence in the upcoming Geneva II conference on Syria.
Hossein Amir Abdollahianmade the remarks in a meeting with visiting Syria?s Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.

Amir Abdollahian underlined that the Islamic Republic supports diplomatic solution to the Syrian crisis based on the Syrian-Syrian talks.

Iran, he stressed, is against any foreign interference in the internal affair of Syria.

On dangers of terrorism, he underlined the need for eradication of the phenomenon from the entire region, Syria in particular.

As to regional developments, the senior Iranian diplomat said Iran believes in peaceful settlement of regional crises.

For his part, Mekdad said that only the Syrian nation has the right to decide for the country?s fate.

He reiterated that those who support terrorist groups in Syria are responsible for the consequences.

He further appreciated the Islamic Republic?s diplomatic and economic support for the Syrian nation.

He at the end described Iran?s role in settling the Syrian crisis as crucial.
