An Iranian lawmaker says Saudi Arabia is after portraying a cruel image of Islam with the backing of the United States by supporting regional terrorism.
Saudi Arabia is the key element in supplying [weapons to] and supporting the terrorist groups in the region, Irans Majlis member Morteza Hosseini said on Tuesday.

The Iranian legislator further pointed out that Saudi Arabias backing of regional terrorists takes place within the framework of the regimes pursuit of its objectives, reiterating on the need for Muslim scholars to come together as soon as possible and find a solution to this challenge that has imperiled the region.

Meanwhile, another Majlis member, Hamid Rasaie, has described as a positive step the recent adoption of a resolution by the UN based on a proposal by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani titled World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE).

Rasaie also said that the Islamic Republic should make efforts to bring about the realization of the slogan and follow up on it in various international events.

He further underlined that in order to bring about a world free of violence and extremism, the key supporters of the terrorists in the region must be identified.

The development comes as other Iranian lawmakers have also pointed to the persistent backing for regional terrorists by Saudi Arabia.

The petrodollars of some regional governments are in the pockets of Takfiri terrorists, Salafis and extremist groups, said Spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Hossein Naqavi Hosseini on Monday.

Saudi Arabias support for Takfiris in Syria, the terrorist activities in Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, and Russia and even some European countries such as Serbia and Bosnia shows that a great threat [is jeopardizing] the regions security, Naqavi Hosseini added.

The Iranian lawmaker further urged the international community to counter extremism and violence, which he said are serious threats to the world and the Middle East.
