Irish parl. delegation to visit Iran next week
A parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Ireland is set to pay an official visit to Iran next week to discuss with Iranian officials grounds for the enhancement of cooperation between Dublin and Tehran.
Hossein Sheikholeslam, advisor to Iran Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on international affairs, said on Monday that the trip comes at the invitation of Chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi, and will seek to further boost parliamentary and political relations between the two countries.

He added that the delegation, led by Chairman of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament) Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pat Breen, will arrive at the Iranian capital on January 11.

During his stay in Tehran, Breen is expected to meet Boroujerdi as well as a number of Iranian political and parliamentary figures.

In a meeting with Speaker of the upper house of the Irish Parliament Patrick Paddy Burke on the sidelines of the 129th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva on October 8, 2013, Larijani stressed the need for the development of Iran-Ireland economic ties.

Larijani also said Majlis is interested in the expansion of cooperation with the Irish Parliament, calling for stronger ties between the two countries in energy, engineering, electronics and economic sectors.
