The head of Crisis Management for Lorestan Province reported on Sunday January 5 that two workers are dead following an accident at the Khorram Abad Petrochemical Plant.
Reza Aryayi told the Mehr News Agency that a fire in a petroleum tank killed one worker, and another worker who was injured on the scene was later pronounced dead in hospital.
The workers were reportedly doing some welding on top of the tank; in addition to suffering burns from the explosion, they were also thrown from the tank and fell to the floor.
The International Labour Organization reports that 98 percent of work injuries are preventable.
Iranian statistics indicate that five workers are killed every day and at least 60 are injured due to work accidents.
