Tehran, Jan 6, IRNA A senior lawmaker on Monday urged the participants of the upcoming Geneva conference on Syria to take a unified stance on the fight against terrorism and extremism.

Hossein Sheikholeslam, the International advisor to the Majlis speaker, made the remarks in reaction to a statement by the US Secretary of State John Kerry on Iran?s informal participation in the long-awaited international conference on Syria, slated for January 22 in Geneva.

Criticizing such a statement, Sheikholeslam told IRNA that Iran is not in margin but in the context of finding proper solution to the Syrian crisis.

It is improbable that the Geneva conference will be fruitful without Iran?s presence, said the parliamentarian, adding Tehran is playing an influential role in the region.

Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary General, has already called for Iran?s participation in the international conference on Syria to be held in the Swiss city.
