Afkham: Iran only accepts proposals respecting its dignity

Tehran, Jan 6, IRNA Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afhkam said Monday that The Islamic Republic would only accept proposals respecting its dignity.

She made the remarks while commenting on recent statement by US Secretary of State John Kerry on Iran?s informal participation in the long-awaited Geneva II Conference on Syria, slated for January 22 in the Swiss city.

Kerry said on Sunday that it would be difficult to see how Iran could be a ?ministerial partner? in the Geneva II talks. However, he said that Tehran could play a helpful role in finding a solution to the conflict in Syria.

?Iran has repeatedly announced from the very beginning of the ongoing crisis in Syria that the problem should be solved through diplomatic solutions. Any solution to the crisis should guarantee the Syrian people?s right to determine their own destiny based on a Syrian-Syrian talks,? said the spokeswoman.

Criticizing Kerry?s proposal on Iran?s sidelines participation in the Geneva II talks, Afkham said Tehran would only accept proposals which are in line with its dignity.
