Moving capital from Tehran no remedy to air pollution

TEHRAN Jan 05 (Shana): The managing-director of Iran Fuel Conservation Organization (IFCO) has said that moving the Iranian capital from Tehran will not resolve the citys air pollution problem.
Nosratollah Seyfi told Shana that a committee with full authority needs to be established to deal with the problem.

He added that Tehran air pollution stems from different factors, noting that no single organization could be held responsible alone.

The main challenge is that we have not yet learnt how to fight air pollution. Under the present circumstances, moving the capital will not resolve the problem and it will even spread pollution to other cities, said Seyfi.

He said clapped out cars, aging transportation fleet and inefficient energy use are the factors behind air pollution.

Tehran recently experienced choking air pollution for weeks, leading to the closure of schools.
