FM arrives in Istanbul

Istanbul/Ankara, Jan 4, IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Istanbul on Saturday afternoon and was welcomed by Iranian and Turkish officials at the airport.

The visit takes place at the official invitation of Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.


Upon his arrival, Zarif was welcomed by Iran?s Ambassador to Turkey Alireza Bigdeli, Iranian Consulate General officials along with Turkish officials.

During the visit, the Iranian foreign minister is to confer with Turkish premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu on issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.

The two foreign ministers, in the meantime, will attend a join press conference.

According to diplomatic sources, Zarif is to discuss various issues of mutual interest, expansion of relations between Iran and Turkey, the regional and international issues, current developments in Syria as well as escalation of tensions and violence in Iraq.

The Iranian foreign minister is to conclude visit and will come back home on Sunday.
