TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran said it is waiting for Lebanese officials' explanation of the death of Majed al-Majed, the Saudi commander of the terrorist group responsible for the recent attack on Iran's embassy in Beirut."We are waiting for Lebanese government's explanation about the death of Majed al-Majed,"Hossein Sheikholeslam, the adviser of Irans parliament speaker on international affairs, told the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.
The commander of the al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades, Majed al-Majed, died on Saturday after the deterioration of his health, media reports said today.
State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr later confirmed the death to LBCI television. The army also confirmed the death.
He was suffering from kidney failure and required daily dialysis. The Saudi terrorist was being held at Baabda military hospital since his recent arrest due to his poor health.
Analysts believe Majeds death was a highly suspicious development since he could reveal many facts about Saudi Arabias relations with the terrorist attack against Iran's embassy in Lebanon.
Earlier on Friday and in a telephone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart Adnan Mansour, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had said that Iran plans to dispatch a delegation to Lebanon in order to take part in the interrogation process of the main suspect in a terrorist bombing attack on its embassy in Beirut.
He conveyed President Hassan Rouhanis gratitude to the Lebanese government for its successful efforts to capture the terrorist.
Zarif said given the detained individual's role in insecurities in the region and his role in the assassination of two embassy staffs, the Islamic Republic has decided to send a team to Lebanon to take part in the procedure aimed at questioning Majed al-Majed.
