Cyber war is not the kind of war fought overtly. Nevertheless, the enemies of the [Islamic] establishment have realized that our countrys capabilities in the virtual world have grown considerably compared to the past, Commander of Tehran-based Mohammad Rasool-Allah Division of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohsen Kazemeini, said on Tuesday.
He added, Western countries, the United States in particular, have realized that our countrys cyber prowess is world-renowned.
Thanks to their high capabilities and acute intelligence, Iranian cyber experts can stage large-scale cyberspace maneuvers in a short period of time, the senior IRGC commander noted.
In late 2011, Iran launched a cyber defense headquarters tasked with preventing computer worms from breaking into or stealing data from the country's maximum-security networks, including nuclear facilities, power plants, data centers and banks.
Elsewhere, Brigadier General Kazemeini pointed to the plannedtalks on the crisis in Syria, noting that Americans and Europeans acknowledge that the negotiations would not bear any fruit if Iran is not invited to the event.
Western countries have realized that our countrys soft power in the region canhave a considerableeffect in resolving the Syria crisis, he pointed out.
The Syria negotiations are scheduled to open in Switzerland on January 22, 2014. The US and so-called Syria opposition are against Irans participation in the conference. The UN, Russia and Syria, however, have urged Tehrans invitation to the talks.
