Former British FM to visit Iran next week

TEHRAN (FNA)- Former British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw is due to visit Tehran next week to formulate a new roadmap to broaden bilateral ties between the two countries, parliamentary sources announced on Monday.

A parliamentary delegation to be headed by Jack Straw is due to visit Tehran on Tuesday January 7, member of the parliaments National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Abbas Ali Mansouri Arani said today.

He said that the British parliamentary delegation would have meetings with the members of Iran-Britain Parliamentary Friendship Group, Speaker Ali Larijani, Chairman of the parliaments National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi and number of other political officials.

According to Manouri Arani, the British delegation is also due to visit the Central cities of "Kashan and Isfahan to witness the country's progress and ineffectiveness of the West-led sanctions against Tehran". Iran's high-profile nuclear enrichment facility in Natanz is on a road linking Kashan to Isfahan.

In relevant remarks earlier this month, Mansouri Arani who also heads Iran-Britain Parliamentary Friendship Group said that Jack Straw is due to visit Iran to pave the way for the normalization of ties between the two states.

Britains parliamentary delegation has asked Iran-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group to travel to Iran and we also agreed with Straws visit after studying the case, he said.

Mansouri Arani reiterated that Straws visit is a quite normal travel which regularly takes place between the worlds parliaments.
