Spokesman for Irans Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Seyyed Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini[/caption]The United States opposes Iran's presence in the upcoming Geneva II conference on Syria crisis to serve the interests of Saudi Arabia and Israel, Press TV quoted Iranian lawmaker Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini as saying on Friday.
The United States is the main opponent of Iran's presence in the Geneva II conference because it seeks to secure the interests of the Zionist governments of Israel and Saudi Arabia, said Naqavi- Hosseini, rapporteur of Iran's parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.
The U.S. authorities are well aware that all countries will embrace Iran's "realistic, democratic and political" solution to the Syria conflict if Tehran attends the Geneva II conference, he said, adding the international community has acknowledged that Iran plays a key role in settling the crisis in the Arab country.
"But the problem is that the Islamic republic's solution differs from the one the U.S. intends to present, and that is why the Americans do not like to see Iran participate in Geneva II," he said, adding that Washington is fearful that its own approaches to resolve the issue would fail.
Iran is ready to play a "constructive" role in the upcoming Geneva II conference on Syria if it is invited, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said last week.
Earlier, UN-Arab League joint special representative to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, said the United States had not agreed on Iran's participation in the upcoming international peace talks on Syria.
Iran, the main regional ally of the Syrian government, has condemned foreign intervention and terrorists' involvement in the Syrian conflict. It has also urged for a ceasefire in Syria prior to Geneva II conference.
