Tabriz to be announced a new capital of Iran within the next couple of years

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The Planning Committee of Iranian Parliament has taken a strategic decision to transfer the capital of the state from Tehran to other city.
According to foreign Mass Media, the Parliament has two years to make the final choice of the new capital. So far, Tabriz is in the first place according to unofficial rating. Isfahan, Shiraz and Mashhad also have some chances. Practically all the cities from this list already played the role of capital historically and Mashhad is a holy city of Shiite (prevailing Islam branch in Iran).

The Committee of Iranian Parliament announced the main reasons for transfer of the capital from Tehran. The first reason is overpopulation of the current capital: more that 16 million people live now in Large Tehran agglomeration that is almost 20% of the countrys population. The second reason is the crime level in the capital, the third reason the ecology and the forth seismic hazard (probability of grade 8 earthquake in Tehran is almost 100%).

Foreign Mass Media also mention the hidden causes for the expected transfer of the Iranian capital: the intentions to move the capital away from the American bases in Persian Gulf, the wish to protect the government from possible Israeli air strikes and even intensified struggle with Azerbaijani separatism. It should be noted that the last reason is considered to be the primary one in case if Tabriz, the forth largest city of the country, becomes a new Iranian capital.

Azerbaijani experts estimate the Iranian capital plans in a different way. In their opinion, today Iran intends not only to resume normal relations with U.S. but tries also to establish American-Iranian alliance. According to Iranian ideologists, in such alliance Iran could serve as a rear center for the new American policy in the Southern and South-Eastern Asia. In this case Persian Gulf will become a zone of peace and prosperity. Accordingly, no any threats for Tehran from American bases in the Gulf can be expected in this case. The transfer of the capital to Tabriz (if it happens) will mean practically the start of Iranian attack in northern direction. Iran has cherished the idea on reintegration of the Northern Azerbaijan (Arran, as its now called in Iranian political beau monde) for long ago. Northern Azerbaijan was separated during Russian-Persian wars and now is a self-determined Azerbaijan Republic. Therefore, exactly because of such reintegration intentions Iran needs to transfer its capital closer to the current Azerbaijani-Iranian border.

Soon after the election of Rouhani for the post of Iranian President Azerbaijani experts noted the inevitability of Iranian attack in northern direction. It was evident for them that new Iran would take all efforts to reconcile with U.S., because it considers U.S. to be the only center of forces and the only possible ally for it.

It should be noted that Iranian attack to the north (if it takes place) will have one more direction Tajikistan. Iranian attack will be accompanied by another unpleasant process attack from the north, as Russia through its Customs and Eurasian Unions projects tries to make new integration dividing lines and to restore its empire in that form or another. The process is already underway: even liberal Russian mass media already demand from Azerbaijan to make decision on its integration project (EU or Customs Union), as nowadays no any country is permitted to remain little, comfortable and independent state.
