Syrian army units raid rebel positions in Homs

TEHRAN (FNA)- Units of the Syrian armed forces killed scores of insurgents in several villages, towns and neighborhoods in Homs.

A military source told the Syrian Arab News Agency that, in an army's attack against the militants hideouts in al-Ghasbiyeh village, 8 terrorists were killed, including Abu Kinan. The source added that the army units destroyed terrorists' dens near the Industrial school in al-Rastan, Abu Hawadid village and al-Ken mount.

Other units of the army attacked the rebels hideouts near Shamsi Bacha Mosque in al-Kusour neighborhood in Homs city, too many anti-government fighters were killed in the army operations in the battle field, the source said.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
