Envoy: Syrian people never forget Irans support, assistance

TEHRAN (FNA)- Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Mansour appreciated Iran for its support and aids to his country, and said the Syrian nation will never forget the Iranians kindness.

Mansour made the remarks in a meeting with Representative of Assyrians and Chaldeans at the Iranian Parliament Yonatan Betkelia in Tehran on Sunday.

He said that the terrorists led by the US, western countries and their agents in the region have targeted the whole Syrian nation.

Betkelia, for his part, expressed the hope that the situation in Syria would quickly improve and peace and security would be restored to the crisis-hit country.

He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has spared no efforts to support the religious minorities and is ready to protect Syrian civilians, including Assyrians living in the country.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government, along with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
