China expects Geneva 2 conference on Syria to be held as scheduled

TEHRAN (FNA)- China voiced the hope that the upcoming International Conference on Syria, Geneva 2 conference, will be held as scheduled and yield positive outcomes.


"China hopes the meeting arrangement can be set as soon as possible, and supports relevant regions' and countries' participation in it," Xinhua news agency quoted Foreign Ministry spokeswoman as saying on Monday.

The spokeswoman added, "China expects the meeting to yield positive outcomes," expressing the hope that the issues can be substantively carried out at an early date to ensure the Syrian people a peaceful and stable life.

Geneva 2 conference is scheduled to be held in the Swiss city of Montreux on Jan 22 .

Syria announced its willingness to participate in the conference as Deputy Foreign and expatriates Minister Faysal Mikdad stressed that counter-terrorism should be a priority for the international conference on Syria.

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that there is an awareness that fighting terrorist threat represents a major task which requires coordinating the international community's efforts and this subject would be among the main issues to be considered by the international conference on Syria.
