Tehran, Dec 22, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Sunday that preventing Iran from playing a positive role in resolving the Syrian crisis is neither realistic nor helpful.
Speaking in a joint press conference with his visiting Italian counterpart Emma Bonino, Zarif stressed that there is no military solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria.
Referring to the Geneva II conference on Syria, the foreign minister hoped that the diplomatic effort would be based on realism.
He said Tehran would take part in the gathering if it was invited, he said, noting that Iran has always stressed the need for finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis based on realistic approaches.
Zarif stressed that no one but the Syrians themselves can decide for their destiny. ˈOthers can only help Syrians to that end,ˈ he added.
