Intl dermatology award for Irans Dowlati

Zistboom:A prominent Iranian professor received the Outstanding Mentor Award from the International Society of Dermatology.
The society gave the award to Dr. Yahya Dowlati of the Center for Research and Training in Skin Diseases and Leprosy (CRTSDL) affiliated to Tehran Medical University, ISNA reported.

Prof. Dowlati received the Professional Doctorate in Pharmacy from the School of Pharmacy, Tehran University, in 1959 and received his medical degree from the School of Medicine, Tehran University, in 1966.

He completed his internship at Tehran University during 1966-67. He also completed an internship at Bon Secours Hospital, Grosse Pointe, Michigan, USA, in 1968.

Dowlati completed his residency program in Hahnemann Medical College & Hospital, Philadelphia, (now called Hahnemann University) PA, USA, during 1969-71.

The International Society of Dermatology was founded by Drs. Aldo Castellani and Frederick Reiss in 1959. The organization was initially named International Society of Tropical Dermatology. It has a special interest in global dermatology and tropical skin diseases, as well as a broad interest in all aspects of dermatology as basic sciences, venereology and public health, and in teaching dermatology in developing countries.

The organizing committee of Drs. George C. Andrews, Anthony C. Cipollaro and J. Lowry Miller recruited an initial worldwide membership of 1,000. Membership is open to all physicians with interest in tropical medicine.

The official publication of the society was published as the quarterly journal Dermatologia Tropica. This journal was later increased to 10 issues yearly and was renamed The International Journal of Dermatology (IJD). Currently, IJD is published every month.
