Iran has offered to host an international conference on a recently adopted UN resolution based on Iranian President Hassan Rouhani痴 World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) proposal.

鄭s the flag-bearer and architect of the resolution on fighting extremism in the world, which has been approved with a global consensus at the United Nations General Assembly, Iran offers to hold an international conference in this regard in Tehran, Iranian Ambassador to the UN Mohammad Khazaei said on Friday.
典he Tehran conference can serve as support for the UN General Assembly痴 resolution andcan examine the dimensions and consequences of violence and extremism and differentiate between extremist and violent groups on the one hand and those groups which rise up to defend their homeland and national independence and to oppose foreign aggression on the other, he added.
The Iranian diplomat emphasized that violent extremism would have destructive ramifications for the international law andorder and would harm nations historical, national and cultural identity.

He noted that extremism has negative consequences on economic development and will increase poverty and the number of refugees as can be witnessed in the case of the current situation in Syria.

典his is the first resolution to condemn violent extremism, he said.

The United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to approve President Rouhani痴 WAVE proposal, which call on all nations across the globe to denounce violence and extremism. Rouhani made the proposal in an address to the UN Disarmament Conference in New York on September 25.

Under the resolution, the General Assembly would urge all member states to unite against violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, as well as sectarian violence.

It would encourage efforts by leaders to discuss within their communities the causes of violent extremism and discrimination, and devise strategies to address them.

It would also recommend the promotion of community engagement in countering violent extremism, including through strengthening ties between communities and emphasizing common bonds and interests.

Rouhani痴 proposal included the holding of immediate negotiations on the conclusion of a comprehensive international convention on banning the production, proliferation and use of nuclear weapons; the holding of a high-level conference in 2018 on nuclear disarmament; and designating September 26 as the international day for the total elimination of nuclear weapons.
