‘Fight against bioterrorism high on IRGC agenda’

A high-ranking Iranian military commander says the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has countering bioterrorism and laser terrorism high on its agenda.
“Bioterrorism, laser terrorism and different conventional and unconventional [methods of terrorism] must be constantly and closely monitored and identified, and effective methods of confronting them must be put on [our] agenda,” Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari told a group of IRGC commanders and personnel in Tehran on Wednesday.
“Terrorist threats in today’s world stem from technological achievements of major powers and our complex enemies. They have combined technology with world domination, and created a complex atmosphere of terror,” the IRGC commander added.
Jafari further pointed to the means and methods used by the enemies to improve their intelligence might and capacities, and underlined the need for the full preparedness of the IRGC to tackle all enemy threats.

On October 29, a senior military adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Iran’s passive defense should keep watch on all enemy moves in order to counter potential threats.

“In this period of time and with regards to the current situation, a team is needed to be in charge of monitoring threats and enemy moves and adopting the necessary measures to counter the threats,” Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said.

He also stated that the country’s passive defense should monitor the threats and identify their types and adopt the necessary measures to counter the threats with a “preemptive approach.”
