TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined that Iranian and Iraqi nations and governments are aware of the plots hatched by their common enemies to create rift among them.Enemies of the Iranian and Iraqi nations are against their close relations as well as Iraqs economic growth and welfare, Larijani said in a meeting with head of the National Iraqi Alliance Ebrahim Al-Jafari in Tehran on Tuesday.
It is necessary that the two brother and neighboring countries (of Iran and Iraq) move to further increase their ties and cooperation, the top Iranian parliamentarian added.
He stated that Iran and Iraq enjoy religious, cultural and geographical commonalties, noting that common interests and concerns have prepared the ground for more consultation and cooperation between the two countries.
On Friday, masked gunmen shot dead 22 people near the village of Balad Ruz, situated 90 kilometers (55 miles) Northeast of Baghdad.
The victims were working on a pipeline projected to carry natural gas from Iran to its Western neighbor, when they came under attack.
After the attack, Iran announced that such acts cannot impede implementation of the project.
Managing Director of Irans Gas Engineering and Development Company Alireza Qaribi said that the attack is under investigation, and noted that an Iranian private sector contractor is in charge of building the gas pipeline.
He further added that Iran is resolved to continue implementing the gas pipeline which will carry Iran's natural gas to Iraq.
The project will connect Iraqs gas network and Naft Shahr energy reserves in Western Iran.
