Larijani's aide calls for immediate halt to foreign backup for Syrian rebels

TEHRAN (FNA)- An adviser to the Iranian parliament speaker voiced Tehran's support for the peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis, and called on foreign meddlers to stop arms shipments and financial aid to the rebels.

Iranian Parliament Speakers top advisor for international affairs Hossein Sheikholeslamsaid Iran supports political dialog among Syrians if it takes place without foreign intervention immediately after a ceasefire is put in place.

The Iranian official referred to terrorist acts in Syria as one of the most significant challenges to the International Geneva II Peace Conference, urging all regional and European countries as well as the US to stop backing foreign-sponsored terrorists in Syria.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
