TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on usage of the very high frequency (VHF) and ultra high frequency (UHF) wavelengths communication bands, head of Irans specialized international organizations said on Tuesday.This agreement is aimed at facilitating it for the radio stations to use the VHF and UHF bands, registering them with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and preventing frequency intermingling, and was signed during the 2nd frequency harmonizing meeting in Russia, " said Alireza Darvishi.
He said that these frequencies are used by radio and television networks, adding, Both Iran and Russia use the GE-06 digital TV broadcasting plan, which is allocated to district No. 1 of the world radio stations, which includes the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to the GE-06 international agreement, which was signed in 2006 in Geneva by 120 countries, including Iran, Russia, members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the EU, the African and Arab countries, the member states agreed to turn their analogue broadcasting into digital by 2015.
The Regional Radio Conference 2006 (GE06) was an ITU conference that replaced parts of the Stockholm Agreement of 1961 for the European Broadcasting Area and parts of the Geneva Agreement of 1989 for the African Broadcasting Area.
These agreements were frequency plans for analogue broadcasting assignments. Digital broadcasting offers the opportunity to create more television and radio programs more efficiently using a lower spectrum. This fact is central to the availability of the Digital Dividend.
GE06 focused entirely on minimizing cross-border interference of digital television and not on the benefits of designating a significant portion of the excess spectrum for mobile broadband
