Araqchi urges reassessment of post-Geneva accord situation

Berlin, Dec 16, IRNA -- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi here Monday called for reassessing the post-Geneva accord situation after the US expanded its blacklist of individuals and companies under existing sanctions against Iran.
Talking exclusively with IRIB and IRNA in Berlin, Araghchi strongly cricicized the latest ?inappropriate? sanction move by the US, saying Washington had ?to rectify its incorrect stance?, if it wanted the nuclear talks to proceed.

Aragchi said this Iranian position was also conveyed in his talks with German officials and would also be the focus of his meeting with European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton in Brussels on Tuesday.

Talks with Ashton will dwell on what has happened so far, the behavior of all sides after the Geneva agreement and the false US allegations. Everything has to be reviewed, according to Aragchi.

If we want to proceed in a rational way, it must be based on goodwill and understanding otherwise we?ll face a difficult way with problems, he added.

Aragchi said he was looking forward to hear also Ashton?s assessment of the situation before making a decision on how to resume the technical talks.

Earlier in the day, the Iranian diplomat met with German officials, including deputy foreign minister Emily Haber, and later in the afternoon addressed the Koerber Foundation at a closed-door session.
