US rep. senator asks for nuking Iran
TEHRAN (FNA)- GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter said he would favor nukes over boots on the ground, if the US ever finds itself on the verge of military action against Iran.

I think a ground war in Iran with American boots on the ground would be a horrible thing, the California Republican Senator said on C-SPAN, MSNBC reported.

If you have to hit Iran, you dont put American boots on the ground, you do it with tactical nuclear weapons and you set them back a decade or two or three.

Hunter, a veteran of the US Marine Corps, conceded that a massive aerial bombardment campaign would be a huge undertaking.

But, he continued, it would be less intensive than the wars in Afghanistan or Iraq where Hunter said crazy guys are now running the government.

During the same C-SPAN appearance, Hunter also alleged that lying is a part of the Middle Eastern culture, though his spokesman later attempted to clarify that the congressman was only referring to Middle Eastern leadership and political culture.

In the Middle Eastern culture it is looked upon with very high regard to get the best deal possible, no matter what it takes, and that includes lying, Hunter said in the interview.

In relevant remarks last month Republican mega-donor Sheldon Adelson urged the United States to coerce Iran by dropping a demonstration nuke in the desert followed by a blackmail threat that the next one would obliterate Tehran.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Ayatollah Khamenei has on many occasions said the Islamic Republic considers the pursuit and possession of nuclear weapons "a grave sin" from every logical, religious and theoretical standpoint. On April 17, 2010 Ayatollah Khamenei issued a fatwa declaring that the production, stockpiling, and use of nuclear weapons are all haram (religiously prohibited).

"Iran is not after a nuclear bomb. Why would Iran want a nuclear bomb? Moreover, when an atomic bomb is detonated, it does not just kill enemies. Rather, it kills innocent people as well, and this goes against Islamic beliefs and the principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the Leader said in his fatwa.

"An atomic bomb does not discriminate between good and bad people, and it is not something that the Islamic Republic would use. The Islamic Republic is relying on something that is not affected by bombs, foreign invasions and other such things. Such things only strengthen what the Islamic republic is relying on. The Islamic republic is relying on the people," a part of the fatwa said.

Analysts believe that the fatwa of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution can well serve as a beacon of light for Washington in order to find its way out of darkness and ignorance.
